About Us

Learn about the lives and loves of gardeners past at Ontario’s amazing historic gardens. Immerse yourself in specialty programs and delightful garden experiences in communities across Ontario. Hear the voices of garden personalities of the past, influential designers, garden owners and garden workers who shaped Ontario’s gardens from modest to grand. Absorb the era influences from First Nations to Jazz-age and the evolving role of gardens, from sustenance and survival to highly-designed spectacle. Music & art, food and fashion, games and garden pastimes help express the voices of the past, and help create a truly memorable garden experience. Specialty programs are designed to animate and amuse, and engage all your senses. Several gardens are clustered, or comprise a convenient route for a memorable garden getaway.

This showcase was inspired by the notable book Garden Voices, Two Centuries of Canadian Garden Writing, edited by Edwinna von Baeyer and Pleasance Crawford.

Organized by Parkwood NHS, National Historic Sites Alliance for Ontario & Gardens Ontario Coalition. Supported by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sport.
